GPS Seminar Series

The Global Program on Sustainability (GPS) Seminar Series shares the latest knowledge on how policy makers and the financial sector can integrate environmental sustainability considerations into decision making. Knowledge sharing and learning are central to GPS' goals, and these virtual sessions present an opportunity to highlight real-life case-studies, ongoing work and lessons learned from countries that are beginning to look beyond GDP and traditional financial metrics to account for environmental risks and opportunities.

For almost 20 years, the Changing Wealth of Nations (CWON) series has been pushing the frontier of knowledge to track the sustainability of economic progress and measure comprehensive wealth across the globe. Å·ÃÀÈÕb´óƬ recently launched the latest edition of the series, , incorporating improvements to the methodology and expanding the asset base to measure wealth for 151 countries.

Global forest ecosystem services were included for the first time in the 2018 edition of the report, and the following editions have continued to expand the time series and improved the methodologies. The 2024 edition implements a meta-analytic predictive model using regression and machine learning techniques to spatially estimate the value of water regulation, non-wood forest products, recreation, hunting and fishing services. Moreover, biophysical estimates of the global carbon stocks in forest ecosystems have been produced, with accompanying remote sensing datasets which are available to users.

This virtual event will discuss the methods used in CWON 2024 to estimate forest ecosystem services and key results found in the technical reports:
