This activity aims to support Tanzania's Rural Energy Agency operationalizing the Renewable Energy Investment Facility (REIF). The REIF will enable the scaling up of local private sector investment in the country¡¯s rural renewable energy sector to meet national electrification targets and; in particular; under the Small Power Producer (SPP) framework. The REIF aims to address identified barriers and financing constraints for distributed renewable energy (DRE) developers through a mix of financing instruments (matching grants; results-based financing; credit lines; equity and mezzanine instruments; and risk mitigation instruments) and capacity building support. In particular; the REIF aims to accelerate the existing pipeline of projects under REA¡¯s SPP Credit Line program that have been slow to disburse. This activity will support a review of lessons learned and recommendations for improving the REIF Operating Guidelines to Accelerate Off-grid Access in Tanzania.
